Hi, I'm Nick
A Senior Mechatronics engineer based in London, UK
An Innovate UK project for nuclear decommissioning receiving £15M in funding to develop a solution to traverse structures in a hazardous and hard to reach places.
As the project lead on this project, I took the MTB from initial design concept to final prototype and am very proud of the electro-mechanical design and resulting robot.
Due to the high potential impact of introducing a new variable inside these closely monitored environments, Testing and CE marking the platform was critical for the acceptance of the robot solution.
Meet IEC 61000 EMC standards
Define Vibration Profile to replicate use and transport
Design with EMC in mind for all aspects of the platform
IP Sealing to meet IP55
Full re-design of the EXTRM platform. Moving away from plastic and carbon fibre to create a more robust and EMI resilient sheet metal body with fixed sensors catered to a particular use-case
The robot has interchangeable sensors, which are connected using the RUC (Ross Universal Connector). Each of the clients had unique use-cases for the robot, and I was responsible for integrating and operating new technologies, including: Intel RealSense, Matterport Spacial Mapping, Kinova Robot Arm, Ubiquiti Mesh Radios.
At Manson Engineering I quickly became a lead engineer on numerous projects including a new gangway to be installed in Auckland CBD’s busiest ferry terminal.
The gangway serves thousands of commuters daily and allows the Ferry to dock and let passengers off regardless of the tide.
