In my role at Ross Robotics, I was deeply involved in the rigorous testing and certification processes necessary for deploying our robots in highly sensitive, EMF-irradiated environments, such as high-voltage converter halls. These environments posed unique challenges due to their high levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and stringent operational safety requirements.
Our focus was to ensure the robot met and exceeded industry standards, particularly the IEC 61000 for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). I led the testing phases, which included comprehensive assessments of EMI immunity and emissions. These tests were crucial in validating the robot’s ability to operate reliably without disrupting or being affected by the surrounding electromagnetic fields.
Additionally, we conducted hot and cold soaking tests to simulate extreme temperature variations, ensuring the robot’s durability and consistent performance under diverse conditions. Vibration testing was also a key component, replicating the stresses of transportation and operational use to ensure mechanical stability and longevity.
Achieving IP55 sealing was another critical milestone, protecting the robot against dust and water ingress, which is essential for safe operation in high-voltage environments. The combination of these testing protocols ensured the robot could be safely and effectively deployed in some of the world's most hazardous and tightly regulated environments.
Our successful certification process enabled deployments across multiple high-risk locations, including collaboration with major industry partners like Hitachi, Siemens, and SSE. This rigorous approach to testing and certification not only ensured compliance but also reinforced the robot’s reliability and safety, solidifying our commitment to delivering robust solutions in challenging environments.
